EOL (生命百科全書(shū)), 由有“生物多樣性之父”之稱(chēng)的哈佛大學(xué)教授Edward O. Wilson于2005年倡導(dǎo)發(fā)起，隨后美國(guó)、澳大利亞等多個(gè)國(guó)家的大學(xué)和科研機(jī)構(gòu)都支持并聯(lián)合參與該項(xiàng)目，2007年5月正式對(duì)外發(fā)布。EOL的基本構(gòu)想是建立“生命百科全書(shū)網(wǎng)站”（http://www.eol.org/），在未來(lái)10年內(nèi)，將地球上已知的180萬(wàn)種生物物種的信息整合在這個(gè)網(wǎng)站上，并免費(fèi)向公眾開(kāi)放。該百科全書(shū)將主要關(guān)注動(dòng)物、植物、菌類(lèi)，未來(lái)還將增加微生物，這些物種信息包括每個(gè)物種的文字描述、照片、分布地圖、音頻、視頻以及業(yè)余愛(ài)好者的觀測(cè)資料等，同時(shí)包括與基因圖譜、相關(guān)專(zhuān)業(yè)文獻(xiàn)的鏈接，實(shí)現(xiàn)對(duì)物種綜合信息的“一站式”查詢(xún)。目前，該項(xiàng)目又得到了歐洲一些科研機(jī)構(gòu)的合作支持。

　　鑒于此，中科院植物所，動(dòng)物所，微生物所的相關(guān)科研人員也積極地參與到EOL項(xiàng)目中，欲盡快啟動(dòng)EOL中國(guó)項(xiàng)目。

　　生物多樣性委員會(huì)特邀來(lái)自smithsonian institution的三位專(zhuān)家James Edwards，Cynthia Parr和Thomas Garnett向大家介紹EOL的特點(diǎn)及使用方法等。中方的相關(guān)科研人員亦會(huì)結(jié)合各自的研究方向做精彩報(bào)告，并且與3位外國(guó)專(zhuān)家磋商。以下是本次研討會(huì)的會(huì)議議程，歡迎各位師生前來(lái)參加！
